Maase is a sensory communication tool designed to foster a more empathetic connection with the world, the senses and loved ones through discreet technology integrated into traditional textiles. Its Maase Home version is a smart shawl developed for older people, offering a comforting companion to help reduce isolation and maintain contact with relatives.
The project combines craftsmanship, wellbeing and technology, prioritising tangible interfaces and a balance between nature and innovation. Its prototype received positive feedback from older users and professionals across healthcare, fashion, marketing and technology.
The team aims to develop Maase Home in two stages: first, as an autonomous product controlled by its user, and later as a connected device capable of receiving multisensory messages from friends and family through an app. Their goal is to make meaningful, sensory communication accessible to a wider audience while securing manufacturing and distribution partners.
