Installation artistaTomás Laurenzo is an Uruguayan artist, researcher, and computer scientist whose practice spans interactive installation, physical computing, virtual reality, and critical media theory. Holding a Ph.D. in Computer Science, his work investigates the intersections between human-computer interaction, political art, and emerging technologies. Laurenzo designs custom hardware and software systems to create participatory installations that challenge power structures, digital surveillance, and social inequalities. His work has been widely exhibited at international venues including ISEA, SIGGRAPH, and major media art festivals across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Political new media art is an ongoing series of interactive installations and critical research frameworks that explore how digital technologies reinforce or dismantle political authority and social control. Through the integration of computer vision, physical computing, and real-time data processing, the project engages participants in physical spaces where their movements and choices trigger algorithmic responses highlighting issues of surveillance, state power, and algorithmic bias. By turning technical systems into sites of political friction, the work urges audiences to critically evaluate the socio-political dimension of everyday technology.
