OPN Studio
BioartistOPN Studio is a Spanish artistic duo founded by Susana Ballesteros and Jano Montañés, working at the intersection of contemporary art, science, and technology. Combining backgrounds in fine art, mechanical engineering, design, and robotics, the duo creates complex interactive installations, electronic sculptures, and bio-technological projects. Their work critically examines human behavior, bioethics, social isolation, and the evolving relationship between the human body and machine autonomy, presenting conceptually rigorous installations that challenge traditional definitions of life and technology.
Give my Creation…Life! is an interactive bio-art and technological installation that explores the concept of mechanical autonomy through biological energy. Inverting the typical biomedical paradigm where machines sustain organic life, the installation utilizes the kinetic energy generated by an isolated beating cardiac muscle to power and grant operational autonomy to a synthetic machine. Accompanied by theoretical archival material on historic extracorporeal circulation experiments, the project serves as a critical inquiry into bioethics, tissue engineering, and the philosophical implications of a “bodyless organ” serving as a power source for technology.
