Martin Bencsik
PhysicistMartin Bencsik is a physicist and researcher at Nottingham Trent University whose work focuses on honeybee communication and the analysis of vibrations produced by bee colonies. His research has contributed to collaborations between science and art, exploring how biological signals can be translated into immersive audiovisual experiences.
The Hive is an immersive installation conceived by artist Wolfgang Buttress in collaboration with Martin Bencsik and a multidisciplinary team. Inspired by the structure of a honeycomb, the sculpture uses vibration sensors in a real beehive to transmit data about bee activity in real time, translating these signals into changing patterns of light and sound. By making the activity of a bee colony perceptible to visitors, the installation connects art, science and technology while raising awareness of the essential role of bees in ecosystems and food production.
