Manel Muñoz
Cybernetic artistManel Muñoz (also known as Neil Harbisson’s fellow cyborg artist Manel De Aguas) is a Spanish cybernetic artist, performer, and transspecies activist based in Barcelona. He is known for designing and permanently integrating custom sensory organs into his own body to perceive environmental phenomena beyond natural human senses. Trained in photography and micro-electronics, Muñoz’s practice investigates the concept of “cyborg art”—a discipline where the artistic medium is the artist’s own modified perception. Through self-designed bio-technology and cybernetic implantations, his work challenges conventional human biology and explores new ways of interacting with the planet.
On Sensography is an ongoing artistic research project and perceptual framework that introduces “sensography”—the practice of documenting and expressing reality through newly created cybernetic senses. Centered on his custom-developed Weather Sensory Organ (an electronic device implanted on his head that detects changes in atmospheric pressure, humidity, and temperature), Muñoz translates real-time barometric fluctuations into internal sound frequencies transmitted via bone conduction. On Sensography serves as both an aesthetic medium and a philosophical inquiry, redefining how environmental data can be experienced somatically and rendered into sensory artwork.
