Foteini Setaki
Architect, researcher and designerFoteini Setaki is a Greek architect, researcher and designer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She holds a Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and an MSc in Building Technology from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), where she also completed her doctoral research. Her work explores the relationship between architecture, material science, digital design and fabrication technologies. In 2015, she co-founded The New Raw with architect Panos Sakkas, a research and design studio focused on circular design, recycled materials and digital manufacturing. Alongside her design practice, she has conducted research into 3D-printed acoustic materials and sustainable construction methods.
Absorbing Echoes explores how computational design and additive manufacturing can be used to control sound within architectural spaces. The research investigates the relationship between the geometry, material composition and acoustic performance of sound-absorbing structures. Using 3D printing, Setaki develops customised geometries that manipulate sound through passive destructive interference, reducing unwanted reflections and improving room acoustics. The resulting structures offer an alternative to conventional acoustic panels, allowing sound absorption to be tailored to specific frequencies and spatial requirements. This approach brings together architecture, engineering and digital fabrication to create functional acoustic elements with new formal and design possibilities.
