OPN Studio
ArtistsOPN Studio is a Spanish artistic duo formed by Susana Ballesteros and Jano Montañés. Their practice combines art, science and technology through interactive installations, electronic sculptures and biotechnological projects. Drawing on disciplines including fine art, engineering, design and robotics, their work explores human behaviour, bioethics and the relationship between biological systems and autonomous machines.
Give my Creation…Life! explores the relationship between biological life and machine autonomy. The installation reverses the conventional relationship between living organisms and technology by using the kinetic energy of an isolated beating cardiac muscle to power a synthetic machine. Accompanied by archival and theoretical material on extracorporeal circulation experiments, the project raises questions about bioethics, tissue engineering and the implications of using a living organ as an energy source for a machine.
