Paul O’Dowd
ResearcherPaul O’Dowd is a researcher at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), specialising in digital fabrication, computer graphics and the development of new printing techniques. His work combines art, design and engineering to explore how digital technologies can reproduce and manipulate texture in printed artworks. He has collaborated with the university’s Centre for Fine Print Research on projects involving 2.5D printing, robotic fabrication and computational methods for generating textured images.
In this presentation, Paul O’Dowd demonstrates how digital tools can translate images into physical artworks with colour and texture. His research explores software that separates images into colour layers and uses computationally generated vectors to guide a printing rig, applying brush and ink to paper. The work investigates the relationship between digital image processing and physical mark-making, combining automated techniques with the visual qualities of traditional painting.
