Technologist

David Vanhoucke is a Belgian-born software architect, technologist, and entrepreneur based in Spain, widely recognized for his work at the intersection of big data, cybersecurity, and advanced 3D computer graphics. Educated at the Katholieke Hogeschool Brugge-Oostende, he has spent over two decades driving technological innovation, serving as a long-time CTO for tech ventures within the Innovalia Group ecosystem, including redborder and Kumo Technologies. As the co-founder and CTO of 3DKUMO, a cutting-edge cloud infrastructure platform designed for the storage, streaming, and optimization of massive 3D files and assets, Vanhoucke has continuously pioneered industrial and creative applications for web-based computer graphics.

Presentation Visualization techniques for artistique representation

“Visualization techniques for artistique representation” represents the collaborative R&D framework and technical showcase presented by David Vanhoucke through 3DKUMO and Kumo Technologies. The project addresses a persistent bottleneck in new media art: the technical difficulty of rendering, streaming, and manipulating millions of real-time particles or massive 3D polygon meshes on standard consumer hardware without losing aesthetic quality. By applying advanced computer graphics pipelines, cloud algorithms, and GPU acceleration frameworks (such as OpenGL and Vulkan), Vanhoucke’s research translates complex algorithmic logic into fluid, high-performance visual mediums for creators. The project has been instrumental in powering large-scale collaborative digital art initiatives, such as the immersive generative installation Network Dancers, where raw computational big data is elegantly rendered into complex interactive particle systems for aesthetic representation.
