Ruairi Glynn
Installation artistRuairi Glynn practices as an installation artist and is Director of the Interactive Architecture Lab at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He has exhibited his work internationally, most recently at Tate Modern London, the Centre Pompidou Paris, and the National Art Museum Beijing.
Drawing on the experience of a well-executed puppet show, it explores how people can set aside their skepticism and ascribe life to objects that, rationally speaking, lack it. In a world increasingly populated by artificial intelligence systems, context-sensitive devices, sensory spaces, and robotic agents, he explores how our perception of the built environment—hitherto considered inert—might shift toward one in which synthetic personalities and artificial life forms coexist. The lecture addresses how to design and build objects and spaces capable of moving and transforming to generate novel experiences and meaningful interactions, presenting his own work, that of artists and engineers who have inspired him, and the prototypical research of his students at the Bartlett School of Architecture.
