Biocomputer Music is an experimental musical composition by Eduardo R. Miranda, developed in collaboration with researcher Edward Braund at the University of Plymouth. The system uses the slime mould Physarum polycephalum as a biological computing component. It responds to a pianist’s performance in real time, triggering electromagnets that vibrate the piano strings to produce additional sounds. The work explores the interaction between a living organism, a human musician and a computer-based musical system.
