Artificial Nostalgia: The Role of AI in Digital Olfaction and Smell Creation

What if we could smell memories? The human sense of smell has a remarkable ability to evoke vivid memories and deep emotions, often with more intensity than visual or auditory triggers. This unique connection between scent and memory forms the foundation of “Moody – Drop Off Your Memories,” an innovative research project exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, olfactory science, and emotional design.

“Moody” is an interactive interior object designed to help users revisit cherished moments through scent and imagery. Combining multimedia and sensory elements, it analyzes photographs and uses AI-driven digital olfaction to generate corresponding smells, creating immersive and personal memory experiences.
